Elisha Matthew Bishop's parents were Alfred Bishop (b8/28/1832 in Virginia. d1/11/1900 in Greene County Missouri) and Mary England was born in North Carolina. Sarah and Matthew Bishop had thirteen children. I know most about Minnie Katherine (Fuggitt) who was my maternal grandmother and Pearl (Tinsley), Letha Eileen (Hughes), Vina (Chumbley), Irene (Guinn) great aunts whom we visited frequently. Among the sons, I knew Toby best as we played sometimes with Dick and Judy who were my second cousins. Leonard, Chub, Ollie, were familiar names. As we visited in my great grandparents home, I often marvelled at how my great grandmother managed to raise a large family without the conveniences we find so necessary in our daily lives.
Obviously each child helped. There were chores age and strength appropriate which bonded the family and increased their love and respect for one another.
