Edna (wife of William F. Garvin. Mother of Wells and Ruth) with siblings
Ruth, Esther, Elmer and Mildred

Wells F. Garvin was my father. Ruth was my aunt. We cousins did not get together often, but enjoyed our holiday gatherings at the Grandparents.

There were five children of Wells and Betty: Donna, Carol, Bill, Kelly and Kathy.
Donna married Theo E. Boyd and they had Victoria Katherine and Theodore Lawrence Boyd.
Viki married Roger Grechus and had Josh and Jessica.
Carol married Gary Freeman. They had David and Eric. When they divorced, she remarried but did not have other children. She is now Mrs. Earl McVay.
Bill married Danna and they had a daughter Michelle who married Ron Gorelle. Michelle has a daughter Shelby.
Kelly married Sheila (Brown)but never had children. He died apparently of a drug overdose.
Kathy has not married but may as she has a special guy in her life.

Ruth married J. Bashford Bishop. They had Miriam, Jimmy and Johnny. We stayed in peripheral touch through Edna and Ruth. Jim is our major Garvin contact now.

I count myself very blessed in that I had both grandmothers and two of my great grandmothers until into my teens.
We visited with my Garvin grandparents more because we lived in the same city, Tulsa, Oklahoma. I remember many holiday dinners, trips to the zoo and will never forget going to the Messiah performance with my Grandmother. On my 10th Christmas my Garvin grandparents gave me a red letter edition of the King James version of the Bible. In it Grandmother had written, "Read it, believe it, obey it."
It is one of my most precious possessions and a cornerstone of my life.
Reverend Garvin and his wife travelled extensively after his retirement. He died on one of these missionary journeys. Edna made her home at Evangel College where she worked as housemother in one of the dorms. She spent later years at the home of Ruth and Bash but ultimately returned to Evangel's Maranantha home.

My grandfather William Freeman Garvin was a minister at Faith Tabernacle in Tulsa, Oklahoma for many years. Edna his wife was the church organist.
I remember many things about their home. Mostly I remember the peace and serenity.
There was a large fragrant magnolia tree in the front yard. Grandmother used to bring blossoms in and float them in a crystal bowl on the piano.
Grandfather had a study with a world globe on a stand and a huge unabridged dictinary. He talked to me about words and places long before I could appreciate the significance of either.
There was a small garden pond with goldfish in the back yard. Grandfather used to treat the grass with yellow sulfa to kill the chiggers so we could play outside without being bitten.
They had an old fashioned turn till only the strongest could finish ice cream maker. It was the best tasting ice cream in the universe and undoubtedly an excellent way to teach the grandchildren that work is its own reward.
